Manual Installation

  1. Download the target file to your Macintosh. The downloaded file is saved in the “Downloads” folder.
  2. Open the “Downloads” folder in the Dock and double click the downloaded file “xxxxxxxx.dmg”. The Installer Disk Image will be mounted on your Desktop. You will find the “Start Here OSX” icon.

Notes:
If you don’t find the “Downloads” folder in the Dock, click “Finder” in the Dock. Click “Go” on the “Finder” bar at the top of the screen and then click (“Home”) => “Downloads”.
If you still have a problem finding the “Start Here OSX” icon, click “Finder” in the Dock and then click “Applications” => “Utilities”. Open the “Disk Utility” and double click “xxxxxxxx.dmg”. A new window will be opened and you will find the “Start Here OSX” icon.

Double click the “Start Here OSX” icon. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

Manual Installation

Step1. Download the tool.(linux-brprinter-installer-*.*.*-*.gz)
The tool will be downloaded into the default “Download” directory.
(The directory location varies depending on your Linux distribution.)
e.g. /home/(LoginName)/Download
Step2. Open a terminal window.
Step3. Go to the directory you downloaded the file to in the last step. By using the cd command.
e.g. cd Downloads
Step4. Enter this command to extract the downloaded file:
Command : gunzip linux-brprinter-installer-*.*.*-*.gz
e.g. gunzip linux-brprinter-installer-2.1.1-1.gz
Step5. Get superuser authorization with the “su” command or “sudo su” command.
Step6. Run the tool:
Command : bash linux-brprinter-installer-*.*.*-* Brother machine name
e.g. bash linux-brprinter-installer-2.1.1-1 MFC-J880DW
Step7. The driver installation will start. Follow the installation screen directions.

When you see the message “Will you specify the DeviceURI ?”,
For USB Users: Choose N(No)
For Network Users: Choose Y(Yes) and DeviceURI number.
The install process may take some time. Please wait until it is complete.

Manual Installation

  1. Login as a superuser ( or use “sudo” option if required).
  2. Check if pre-required procedures are completed
  3. Install the driver.
    1. Turn on the printer and connect the usb, network or parallel cable.
    2. Go to the directory where the driver is.
    3. Install LPR driver.The install process may take some time. Please wait until it is complete.
      Command  :  dpkg -i –force-all  (lpr-drivername)
    4. Check if the LPR driver is installed.
      Command  :  dpkg -l  |  grep  Brother
  4. Confirm/Configure a file according to your connection.
    1. Check the configuration filename for your distribution.
      Example:
      openSUSE, Ubuntu, Debian : /etc/printcap
      Redhat, fedora, Mandriva : /etc/printcap.local 
    2. Edit the file according to your connection.
      For USB Connection (Default)
      Check if the parameter of “:lp” is “:lp=/dev/usb/lp0”
      For Network Connection
      replace “:lp” line to the following 2 lines
      :rm=(ip address of your printer)\
      :rp=lp\
      For Parallel Connection
      replace “:lp” line to the following line
      :lp=/dev/lp0\
    3. Restart the print system.
      Command  (for  lpr):  /etc/init.d/lpr  restart
      Command  (for  lprng)  :  /etc/init.d/lprng  restart 
  5. Try a test print.

Manual Installation

Install the driver.

  1. Turn on your MFC/DCP and connect the USB cable.
  2. Open the terminal and go to the directory where the driver is.
  3. Install the scanner driver.

for RPM : Command (for rpm) : rpm  -ihv  –nodeps  (scanner-drivername)
for DEB : Command (for dpkg) : dpkg -i –force-all  (scanner-drivername)

Check if the driver is installed.
